MOTHER'S DAY 2011

The weather is cold and rainy today but I was really spoilt by my kids for Mother's Day. Krystal and Kayley made the lunch ... absolutely scrumptious! I was banned from the kitchen!! I was blessed with awesome gifts and the beautiful words in the card made me feel very special and loved. I even got a lovely bunch of red roses from my hubby, which you can just see behind Kayley in the photo below. I could easily get used to this kind of treatment. What a great day we spent together. Just Blayze was missing but he was having mommy time with his mother.

EASTER IN HILLCREST

We all stayed at home this Easter and decided to have the Easter Egg Hunt at our house. It didn't really match up to the huge garden at Laughing Waters, and the hunt was over very quickly but Blayze enjoyed it. He couldn't stuff enough eggs into his mouth !! He was so cute and was very thoughtful to share his eggs with everyone.

BLAYZE UPDATE OCTOBER 2010

Here are the latest pics of Blayze. We last saw him about a month ago for about 5 minutes and before that probably 6 weeks ago. So it was great to spend a bit of time with him and Bevan yesterday. Once he got used to us again, he settled down and ended up in quite a happy mood ... as you can see. We just wish we could see him more often. These are such incredibly precious moments.

MY 50TH

My darling husband and kids bought this beautiful Tanzanite and Diamond ring for me for my 50th. Tanzanite's are more like a light purple colour - this pic makes them look like sapphires. They are only found in Tanzania and are more rare than diamonds, but softer than diamonds. I have only ever dreamed of wearing a tanzanite ring. Shew!! So spoilt!

(And yes, I do have hands like my mother!!)

We decided to invite a few friends over for dinner for my 50th birthday. I knew I couldn't subject my friends to my cooking and baking skills, so my friend Carey said she would do it for me. She cooked a superb 3 course meal and decored my dining room beautifully. She wouldn't allow me to help with anything, so I sat back and enjoyed the evening.

My two gorgeous girls were our waitresses for the evening. They did an awesome job and
Carey made sure that they stayed on top of all the cleaning as they went
along ... much to their 'delight'!!!

Of course, my 'best friend' was there before the rest of the guests arrived.
She also spoiled me rotten for my birthday. What a sista!!

KAYLEY'S GRADUATION

Kayley had her official graduation last week - she is now the proud owner of her Bachelor of Education Degree. She has also just been informed that she will need to attend another Awards Ceremony for being chosen as the Student who produced the most consistently good marks ... or something like that! The guy was a bit vague on the phone, but she's been told it will be a monetary award, so she's chuffed cos she can go shopping for her 'winter wardrobe'. Anyway I will update you on what the actual award ends up being after the 10th May when we have the actual proof in our hands!!! Well done, Kay! We are so proud of you.

Our house has needed a facelift for way too long now, so we decided to paint the roof and add plaster bands around the windows and doors. We are also planing on adding a garage but that still needs to be approved by the Town Council. So here are some 'before' and 'after' photos.

BLAYZE'S 1ST BIRTHDAY

Blayze turned one on 14th March - can't believe one year has already gone by. We were able to spend 1/2 hour with Blayze and Bevan on his birthday, so rushed through opening pressies and then tried to teach him a few words from the books we bought him. He still doesn't say many words when he visits, although Bevan says he does say a few words when he is at home. However, we really enjoy every minute we get to spend with him. We still aren't allowed to baby sit at all which really upsets us a lot. He is very precious though.

This is Mrs Daly! She started teaching Grade Ones at Northdene Primary School on Wednesday.

Her walls are still a bit bare but she is waiting on a order she placed for a whole lot of teaching aids from the USA. So we will have to post a few more pics once she has filled her walls.

Here are two pics of Blayze. Still not getting to see him very much at all - maybe once a month. So he is not all that happy when I take him away from his daddy, and I end up having to talk to him while he is in his daddy's arms. Anyway, I continue to cherish the time I have with him. Please keep praying for Bevan - both for his salvation and for a proper job so that he can meet his financial commitments and feed all the hungry mouths in his 'family'.

I had a great birthday yesterday - thanks for all the calls and wishes. I was so spoilt by everyone. Zanne (the Milnes) bought me the wrought iron lettering (see my previous post), Dane and Krystal gave me an awesome album of Kay and Byron's wedding. Krystal photo -shopped the wedding photos onto A4 photo paper and made up a coffee table album. It's hard to explain but it's awesome. (By the way, I only just got Kayley's wedding photos recently!!) Kayley and Byron gave me a new wallet, and I got all sorts of odds and ends, chocolates and cards from friends.

We recently bought this king size bed and headboard from friends of ours who moved to the States. I was so chuffed cos I already had king size linen on my Queen bed, so I didn't think the linen would be a prob. Well, it was! My king size duvet sat on the top of the bed with no overhang, so needless to say the cold air wafted in each time we turned. So guess what I got for my birthday from my awesome husgand - a Super King Size Duvet. So here are some pics of our bedroom.

SISTERS JUST KNOW!!

Zanne bought me these gorgeous rusty wrought iron words for my birthday. I have always wanted them. She is just the best! I put them on an enormous blank boring wall in my dining room area, and they look great! Well I think so, anyway!

I think if mom had to see me placing rusty, old, welded metal words on my walls, she would think I had lost it!!

OUT OF AFRICA

On one of our game drives, we stopped to visit another lodge in Nambiti called Eseweni. Oh my word - it was breathtaking! It has been built off the edge of a cliff and is absolutely gorgeous. It is way up high and overlooks a river where the animals come to drink. Kay and Byron are standing on the deck overlooking the gorge. None of us could afford to stay here - maybe those who earn American dollars would be so lucky! This is the river below. Not for the fainthearted!

They showed us one of their guest suites. Beautifully rustic but luxurious. This bath is actually out on a private deck, which overlooks the valley. Awesome!!

The decor is stunning. Look at the elephant made out of towels, in between the pillows.

This is the lounge area. Plush leather, thatching and hot chocolate - what an aroma!

This was back at our humble Long Grass Lodge, but the same skill is shown here - Not sure what the serviettes were supposed to be - maybe a Secretary Bird, or a Stork or an Ostrich, but to Byron it was Tyrannusaurus X ... or something like that!!

We loved these little wrought iron candle holders - the colourful shirts and tops were all beaded.

We stopped for lunch at these cascades and pools. Wish it was summer - we could have enjoyed some fun bum slides.

If I were just a bit closer I don't think I could have resisted pushing Mel in!

HIPPO - there was a 'tiny' baby in this family - only a couple of months old. Too cute!!

The wind blew right through us on the game drives - Mel underestimated how cold it would be!!

We were spoilt with a couple of days at Long Grass Lodge, Nambiti Game Reserve which is just outside Ladysmith. We live in an awesome country - there is nothing like being in the African bush - the smells, the animal noises and the bird songs are all you need to destress!

JETSKIING AT INANDA DAM

We spent the day down at Inanda Dam last week Friday. Dane recently bought a Jetski, so we decided to go down and watch him in action. There seems to be quite an art to actually standing up on the Jetski, so needless to say, there were quite a few sprawls. Stacy gave it a go and made a spectacular start - giving it full throttle - within 5 seconds she had disappeared into the distance!!! With a little more practice she will be a star! Dane has managed to master it and even managed to crack a few 'doughnuts' in the water! Typical - he just loves making waves!!

Bevan joined us as well. He is a natural in the water. I think surfing has definitely helped him when it comes to balance. Bevan is in the brown hoodie and the other guy is Ricky, Dane's friend.

Mel battled to buckle up the life vest - we had to release the straps quite a lot to get around his new found "boep". He was quite proud of his body as usual and was quite pleased to show off his 'muscles'!!

Sisters, Stacy and Devon. Yay! Arkansas still rears its head around this part of the world.

And the other sisters - Zanne and Jen. We would have loved to give the jetski a go, but it is actually the middle of winter here, so the water was 'freeslik' cold! Watch out for us in summer though!

Here we go - Mel was one second on, the next off!! He eventually resorted to just dragging his feet behind him and 'choeffed' around the dam like a real grandpa!! I won't mention how stiff his muscles were the next day.

The guys were pretty impressed with Krystal's skill in the water - she managed to get to her feet! Sorry - didn't get that on camera.

This is what we are all striving for - to stand up and enjoy the ride. Shot, Bevan!

TREASURING RARE MOMENTS

You must be getting sick and tired of seeing photos of Blayze, but these moments are very few and far between, so we try to make the most of them. The little girl is Shaonehtea, Blayze's half sister. We call her Shao (rhymes with plough). She is very sweet with Blayze, but I don't know if she likes that Blayze gets a little more attention than she does.

BLAYZE - 3 MONTHS

Yay!! Bevan came over again yesterday. What a treat. I am so loving getting to know this little chap! He is really chubby and cuddly, but also full of dribble and oopsies! (as you can see on his tracksuit top). Bevan stayed for longer than he has ever stayed ... about 45 minutes so I lapped up all the precious moments. Wow, what a feeling! ('Scuse the pj's - was having a lazy morning!!)

MANGWANANI SPA

Mel and I were given a voucher for the Mangwanani Spa at Sibaya on Friday night. On arrival we were given cheese and biscuits and old brown sherry. Then we were given a white gown and slippers for the evening. Every time the zulu drums rolled, we were ushered off to another section of the spa. We started with a foot massage (up to the knee actually). It started off really well - was soothing and relaxing, but as time passed, we both began to grimace and soon it was jolly painful! I wanted to take photos but the ladies doing the massage did not seem too impressed, so I packed away my camera. The shot below is of Mel in his white gown and slippers!! This is where we had the foot massage.

We were then served dinner after the foot 'battering' and then we went on to having a full body massage with hot stone therapy. OH MY WORD! I think my therapist decided that she was going to massage my large buns away!! Maybe she thought they were knots that needed to go!! I was actually writhing in pain before she realised she had better relax a bit. I am still bruised - two days later!! Mel loved it!! Would I go again - no - I don't think so. I thought it was supposed to be RELAXING! At the end of the full body massage, we were served a tot of Amarula - I needed something stronger than that!

RUGBY FINAL

We went to the Milnes for supper and the Rugby final on Saturday. Loren and Kris and their boys were there as well. We 'pigged out' on chips and pretzels while the match was on, and then Zanne dished up some yummy home-made soup.

We don't look like we are having any fun, but we really did and SA (the Blue Bulls) won the rugby.

Jason and Ryan kept us all entertained while the adverts were on!!

Devon is the most sought after baby-sitter in town!! Love you, Dev!

KRAZY KAYLZ

I just love Kayley to bits ... her enthusiasm and energy just bubble out from her. She is such a breath of fresh air. And she has her daddy wrapped around her little finger!! Today Kaylz made me a necklace and bracelets to match. They're really pretty ... she is so creative and her work is always so neat and tidy.

She also made this pink necklace for me a while ago. Krystal and Kay are really talented - I love their new, fresh ideas.

And I thought I would just show you a "19 voetsak" pram that an old lady gave to me. Its about 52 years old!!!! It was up in her attic and rusting to pieces. So I cleaned it up and resprayed it. It has amazing suspension but rather huge and clumsy and isn't exactly easy to manoevre. Both Kayley and Krystal said I need to keep it for when they have kids. The problem is where do I keep it in the meantime???

OUR NEW HOME

This is our new home - 20 Rapson Road. It is a Tuscan style home and is only about 5 years old, so the finishes and colours are nice and neutral. This is the front of the house as you come down the driveway. It has a double garage (you can't see it in this picture), but they are nice big wooden garage doors that work on a motor. Yahoo!
This is our front door - nice and wide. It leads straight into the open plan lounge/dining room. Excuse the furniture - it belongs to the old couple who are still living in the house. I can't wait to put my furniture in - I have it all laid out in my head!! The doors at the back of the lounge leads onto a HUGE verandah.

The bedrooms are nice and spacious with tons of built in cupboards. I may change the colours on the walls but I can live with these colours for a while.

This is the dining room - rather cluttered. I don't think my dining room table is going to fit in, so I may just put it on the verandah, or I will have to downsize.

This is the front entrance.

And here is the kitchen - it is identical to the colours I have in my existing home ... just 1/3 of the size!!! But it has a huge corner pantry cupboard - I'm grateful for that!! It has black granite counter tops too! This wooden counter at the front of the photo is a kind of breakfast counter with bar stools. The old lady is going to leave us her stove - she says its a lovely old stove but I'm not sure that I won't change it!! Not that I do much cooking, but it must at least look good!!

Sorry there are no pictures of the bathrooms and the main bedroom - don't know why the agents didn't take pics of them, but when I go and visit the house again, I will take more pics. We move ... hopefully ... and the end of June, but we are waiting for confirmation of that. If not then maybe end July. End of June would be great cos we will be on school holidays then so it would suit us better.

This is a view from the garden onto the verandah. It doesn really give you any idea of how big the verandah actually is. We don't have a pool, but we will probably put in a small splash pool before summer.

I was so happy that a couple of my children could join us for lunch. Dane was away in Aghanistan and Bevan was unable to join us.
